Tottenham defeated Newcastle on their return to the Premier League with Jonjo Shelvey seeing red for a rough tackle on England international Dele Alli.



The Magpies were forced into early chances in a goalless first half with Paul Dummett and Florian Lejeune coming off.


Harry Kane's tackle on Lejuene forced Benitez to take off the Frenchman. Rafa Benitez brought on Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba as replacements for the two defenders.


The second half came to life as Spurs took control of the game and neat interplay in midfield forced Jonjo Shelvey to go in hard on Dele Alli.


The referee had no other option than to issue a clear red card to the England international.


Cristian Eriksen took the game by the neck providing the two assits for the goals scored. The Dane's pass by met by an on rushing Alli who slotted past Rob Elliot.


With 20 minutes left, Ben Davies was found by Eriksen with the Welshman scoring the second goal of the game.
